A beach- town location gets an urban look in this model home at BEACH20.
Interior designer Trevor Kruse aimed to avoid the “quintessential Cape Cod beach sensibility” at the Wasaga Beach project, creating a younger, more eclectic design instead. Keeping it accessible to prospective buyers, he sourced furniture from big box and online retailers instead of more boutique city shops. “Wasaga, because it’s more remote, doesn’t have access to everything available in Toronto,” says the principal with Hudson Kruse Interior Design. “We were trying to make it feel like purchasers actually are able to acquire the things in this suite.” Units at the Bremont Homes townhouse site range from 1,846 to 2,138 square feet and from $499,990 to $612,990. The model is located at 878 Mosley St., Unit 16, Wasaga Beach and opens Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by appointment. Call 905-266-1851 or visit www.mybremont.ca
- Inspired by the water outside, Kruse introduced pops of blue into the family room, with the area rug and West Elm-sourced loveseats. Meanwhile, a collection of smaller tables creates an eclectic but functional effect. “It’s very easy for someone to move one over to where they’re sitting,” he says.
- “We wanted it to be contemporary, as opposed to a traditional mantle,” the designer says of the fireplace, which he surrounded with a wall of limestone-looking porcelain for a sleek but natural look. A built-in niche offers room to accessorize — or to store the media equipment.
- A 13-foot kitchen island offers seating for six, with a white quartz countertop and contemporary waterfall edges. “It’s very clean and modern,” says Kruse, who added white metal pendant lighting above, with wood detailing and braided black and white cords. “It’s an interesting, casual, industrial fixture,” he adds.
- “We tried not to play into a traditional beach house vocabulary,” Kruse says of the kitchen, instead opting for more contemporary white matte lacquer cabinetry with brushed aluminum hardware, paired with wood-grain cabinetry below the island. A white porcelain tile backsplash and integrated appliances complete the look.
